It is that time of year where many families embark on their summer vacations. I was lucky enough to travel to Europe for the first time recently. It was an unbelievable experience, a great vacation, and A LOT of walking. At the end of the day, like everyone else I couldn’t wait to get off my feet and let the aching subside. I am going to go over some tips and recommendations to avoid the dreaded foot fatigue so you can enjoy that vacation!
- Supportive Shoes - The most important recommendation I can make is to be sure you are wearing the appropriate support and shoe gear. The majority of people will have mild to severe pronation or supination with their gait. A good pair of appropriate inserts that slide into your shoe will help to avoid unwanted motion and decrease the foot pain from walking and standing for long periods.
- New Shoes - Making sure you have a new, supportive pair of shoes will decrease any discomfort. Wearing old shoes that are worn down can absolutely cause foot pain with excessive walking and standing. Having supportive and new shoes can also help avoid any stress fractures your foot can develop from the abnormal strain as your feet are not used to that much pressure.
- Stretching - Stretching can help avoid developing foot fatigue from all the activity on our wonderful summer vacations!
In our Healthy Steps Shoe Store we have all of the appropriate shoes and inserts to aid you in your vacation, and our doctors can always recommend the appropriate pair for you! Don't let foot pain stop you from enjoying your vacation!
