If you are experiencing foot pain while exercising, it is important to first determine the cause of the pain. Common causes include plantar fasciitis, stress fractures, tendinitis or just plain overuse strains.

If it is just a mild strain of your foot or your ankle, there are some steps you can take to manage your pain and continue exercising. Wearing supportive shoes and orthotics, stretching and strengthening exercises for the feet and lower legs, and using ice or anti-inflammatories to reduce inflammation can all help.  Reducing the intensity of your exercise by sticking to non-impact activities and decreasing the duration of your exercise routine until your pain improves.

It's also important to note that rest and recovery is an important part of preventing foot pain and other injuries. So, take enough rest and avoid overtraining!

It is recommended to pay attention to your body and not to push through pain.  Should you continue to have pain that persists or becomes severe, stop exercising and make an appointment with one of the doctors at Foot and Ankle Associates of North Texas.  Increasing or persistent pain is certainly something that should not be ignored.  We will be able to determine the cause of your pain and formulate a treatment plan to give you the best way to get you back to your activities sooner than later!
