It can hurt for many reasons. Maybe you suffered some kind of trauma and have a small tear in the tendon. If this is the case, you likely will need surgery. While the recovery can be lengthy, it’s a fairly simple procedure. Two different bumps commonly cause Achilles pain. A “pump bump” develops when shoes that rub the heel.
