Achilles Pain & Surgery Explained by a Grapevine Podiatrist

We see many patients at Foot and Ankle Associates of North Texas who suffer from Achilles tendon pain. The Achilles tendon is the long tendon that runs down your calf and attaches to your heel bone. It can hurt for many reasons. Maybe you suffered some kind of trauma and have a small tear in the tendon. If this is the case, you likely will need surgery. While the recovery can be lengthy, it’s a fairly simple procedure. Two different bumps commonly cause Achilles pain. A “pump bump” develops when shoes that rub the heel. With this pain, we can try a few remedies before surgery. If surgery becomes necessary, the procedure is simple and quick. The other bump is called a retrocalcaneal exostosis, which occurs when a bone spur is growing on the back of your heel. This painful bump can happen to anyone. Again, we can try some conservative treatments before surgery. Achilles surgery is not nearly as bad as it used to be. Call us today at 817-416-6155 so we can take a look at your Achilles pain.
